Presentation on the Perczel Globe at the Night of Museums

On the occasion of the Night of Museums, the Perczel globe will be  presented at 20.00 in our Reading Hall by Dr. László Zentai, Vice-Rector for Education and Academic Affairs of the Eötvös Loránd University. The Professor will give a lecture on the history of László Perczel's globe. After the presentation the copy of the globe will be on display in the Director General's Room.

The giant globe was awarded the first prize at the International Geographical Congress in Venice in 1881. With a diameter of 127.5 centimetres, it was the largest Hungarian globe in Hungary until 1965. Three copies were made of the Perczel Globe, one was placed in the National Széchényi Library, one in the Prime Minister's Office, the Carmelite Monastery and one in the Eötvös Loránd University, in the Director General's Room of the ELTE University Library and Archives. More details about our programmes are available here and on our library website.
