About the university heritage coordination

On 22 June, 2020, the Conference of University Leaders adopted the proposal on the survey and digital collection of the university cultural heritage and commissioned the University Library and Archives to establish a professional network and reveal the university collections and museum values.

University heritage coordination is a long-term program managed by the University Library and Archives of Eötvös Loránd University, whose participants are collection coordinators appointed by the organizational units of Eötvös Loránd University that have a university collection or preserve museum values.

Our purpose

The aim of the university heritage coordination is to establish a professional network at ELTE, unique in Hungarian higher education, coordinating university collections and ensuring the protection of museum values owned by the university. Our purpose is to reveal the cultural heritage preserved by the university.

Operation of the collection coordination network

The University Library and Archives of Eötvös Loránd University started the preparation of the professional network in 2019 by establishing a collection coordination structure. The joint work started with contact with already known university collections. As a result, on the annual professional day of the University Library and Archives held on 25 October, 2019, some university collections presented themselves with short lectures. The studies written from the lectures were published in the conference volume entitled The present and future of the museum collections of Eötvös Loránd University. An electronic version of the volume is available here. (Only the summary is in English.)

The coordinators in the organizational units of the university were successfully appointed in the summer of 2020. Between 2021 and 2022, the university heritage coordination focuses on the survey of university collections and the tangible cultural heritage, and on improving the protection of its holdings.
