The book launch of Hiátus, the debut poetry volume by Horváth Florencia (born in 2002 in Celldömölk), was met with lively interest on Tuesday, 10 March, at the ELTE ULA Savaria Library and Archives, on the second floor.
The author is the head of the Junior Workshop of the Association of Young Writers (FISZ) and deputy editor-in-chief of prae.hu, as well as a poet, critic, and literary organiser. The author’s literary career began during secondary school years, with first publications appearing in the regional daily Vas Népe. Since then, poems and essays have been published in several leading literary journals, including Alföld and Jelenkor. After earning a degree in Hungarian Studies at Eötvös Loránd University, the author is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Literary and Cultural Studies in Budapest, and previously curated the Kis Présház Kötetlenül literary series for several years.
Hiátus is a collection of poems inspired by autobiographical experiences. As the author stated in an interview with Vas Népe: “This is a consciously autobiographically inspired work, but not a personal diary. While writing, what mattered most to me was understanding who I am – how I articulate things about myself.”
During the event, Viktória Málics, a student at ELTE Savaria University Centre, spoke with the author about the background of the volume and its poetic world. The programme also featured poetry readings by students Eszter Noémi Nagy and Kamilla Szabó.
The event was organised by the Department of Hungarian Literary Studies at ELTE, with a strong emphasis on supporting and showcasing local literary talent.
